1914 - 1983

Babasyuk was born in 1914 in the Kalno, Vinnitsa Region of the Ukraine. He moved to Russia to begin his formal art education, studying first at the Irkutsk Art Tekhnikum from 1930 to 1935 and then at the prestigious Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Leningrad (Repin Institute) from 1938 to 1940. He spent the next eight years in the military service, eventually returning to finish his studies at the Repin Institute in 1949.

While he first exhibited as a student in 1934, Babasyuk began to "officially" exhibit in 1950 at the important "All-Union Art Exhibition" in Moscow. He went on to participate in the same exhibition for the next two years as well as at the "Soviet Russia" show in Moscow in 1960.

Like all top Soviet painters, Babasyuk was a well-respected professor of art to several subsequent generations of Russian artists. He taught at the Repin Institute from 1950 into the early 1980's. His figurative and landscape paintings are in numerous museums in the former Soviet Union.

Babasyuk is listed on page 21 of Matthew Bown's, A Dictionary of Twentieth Century Russian and Soviet Painters.
